Patna, March 17: The state government said in the Legislative Council on Tuesday that it has set a target of getting 5,000MW of power supply by the year-end.

Replying to BJP member Rajneesh Kumar’s query as to whether the government intends to make the state self-dependent or not to meet its energy requirement energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav dwelt at length about the steps.

The state, at present, is getting around 2,700 to 2,800MW from all sources. Yadav announced in the House about the schedule for starting commercial operation of two units (110x2MW) of Barauni Thermal Power Station (BTPS) and three units of 660MW each of Nabinagar Power Generating Company Ltd (NPGCL). 

Two units of 110MW have already started generation at Muzaffarpur Thermal Power Station (MTPS).

Adjournment motion

After question hour, BJP member Sanjay Prakash moved an adjournment motion during zero hour seeking a debate on the power tariff hike. 

Tobacco hike idea

During question hour, Sushil Kumar Modi questioned the state government’s decision to reduce tax rate from 30 to 20 per cent on tobacco products when two chief secretaries made a proposal to increase the rate by 60 to 70 per cent.
