Darbhanga, Oct. 10: A few BJP-backed ward councillors have sought a no-confidence motion against the mayor of Darbhanga Municipal Corporation (DMC), Ajay Paswan.
Paswan has been facing the councillors’ heat as they charged him with cases of corruption and not initiating development work in the area.
Paswan now has to undergo the litmus test on October 15 before the municipal board if he wants to continue as the mayor. For the second time, he has to prove his strength before the board after undergoing a similar motion two years ago. Back then he had bagged a majority.
The DMC has 48 ward councillors. On September 29, around 31 ward councillors, including 11 BJP-supported councillors, had raised a no-confidence motion against the mayor, which led to a political uproar in the DMC. The civic body would go to polls in six months. Paswan said: “Some leaders wanted to take the credit of whatever development happens in the DMC. Now, they don’t want any development because they think the credit would go to me, which is unbearable to them.”
Paswan added that he would clarify the charges of corruption levelled at him on October 15.
