Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday said the JDU was only making noises and had arrived at a deal with the BJP and would not arrest Union minister Ashwini Choubey's son Arjit Shashwat.

Taunting chief minister Nitish Kumar for not arresting Shashwat, Tejashwi alleged that the JDU leaders' statement over Shashwat's arrest is part of a deal with the BJP.

The leader of the Opposition was reacting to JDU national secretary-general and spokesperson K.C. Tyagi's statement asking partner BJP to ensure that Shashwat surrenders.

Shashwat is among nine persons named accused and booked under non-bailable sections of the IPC in the case lodged in Nathnagar police station of Bhagalpur on March 17. The case pertains to a religious procession which the police say was taken out in Bhagalpur town without the administration's permission.

In the latest development on Saturday, a Bhagalpur court rejected an anticipatory bail plea moved by Shashwat.

"The kind of statement coming out from the JDU leaders proves that a deal has been struck with the BJP in which JDU leaders are pretending to put pressure on the BJP seeking his surrender," Tejashwi said on the sidelines of a function at S.K. Memorial Hall. "But in reality, the Bihar government has made up its mind not to arrest Ashwini Choubey's son."

Tejashwi alleged that the police was not is a position to arrest a person against whom an arrest warrant has been issued by the court. "The JDU leaders are not talking tough. They are proposing to the BJP that if Shashwat surrenders then it would be good for everyone. I find this really funny," Tejashwi said before departing for Darbhanga. "It is a very serious matter that public property was vandalised, shops were torched and people, including police jawans, were inured. With all this, the police dare not arrest him, it's a shame for Nitish Kumar."

The former deputy chief minister also said that Nitish does not have the time to appeal to the people of the state for calm. Neither is he taking action against the elements who are creating social strife. He also said that had Shashwat been arrested on the very first day, the communal flare-up would not have spread to other districts. Tejashwi also said that he suspected that the swords waived during Ram Navami procession were part of a plan to create fear.
