Patna, Dec. 19: Upping the ante against the BJP on land purchases, the JDU today shot a letter to Union finance minister Arun Jaitley demanding department probe into the purchases ahead of demonetisation.
The JDU has been attacking the Bihar unit of the BJP over the land purchases and a few days back, the ruling party in the state had also filed a complaint with the income tax department seeking investigation and legal action against the party.
"We have been asking questions ever since the land deal of the BJP was unearthed, but the party has not answered a single question. Today, we wrote to the (Union) finance minister urging him to conduct a department probe into the deals. It is a serious issue and we will keep asking about it until we are satisfied," said Neeraj Kumar, the JDU MLC, who along with two other party leaders, Sanjay Singh (MLC) and Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, the spokesperson of the party, sent the letter.
The JDU has urged Jaitley to probe the matter on three points.
First, the JDU has sought details of the amount transferred from the central BJP unit to Bihar BJP as party president Amit Shah had given the responsibility to three BJP leaders - Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, Lalbabu Prasad and Sanjiv Chaurasia - in Bihar to purchase the land. The JDU demanded the details of the amount transferred along with the bank details.
Second, the JDU has demanded a probe into where the funds were arranged from because huge plots in several states were bought.
Third, the JDU wants a probe on 72 per cent of the land that were purchased between June 1 and September 30, the period when the Centre had announced the Income Declaration Scheme. This, according to the JDU, raises doubts that black money might have been used to purchase the land.
