Patna: The JDU on Friday said it would give opportunity to young faces in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
During the meeting of JDU's Extremely Backward Classes (EBC) cell at the party office, its leader in the Rajya Sabha and national general secretary RCP Singh said the party will field young faces in the 2019 elections.
The comment assumes significance seeing the current political scenario in which the Opposition is led by young leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav in Bihar and Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.
Every political party wants the vote of the youths, which is considered New India, as more than 65 per cent of voters in India are under the age of 35.
"In the coming Lok Sabha elections we have decided to field young faces," RCP Singh said in the party office.
Young voters are believed to have played a key role in the BJP's sweeping victory in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and every political party is aiming to tap the youth by giving tickets to young leaders ahead of 2019.
Even the RJD is working on the same plan, as the party has decided to give a good number of Lok Sabha seats to the young.
Talks of former JNU president Kanhaiya Kumar getting a ticket from the Grand Alliance is part of the strategy.
Youths (in the age group of 15-35 years) comprise approximately 16.8 per cent of Bihar's population. Even the RJD had announced that the party will promote youths and will distribute a major chunk of the tickets among them for the Lok Sabha elections.
On seat-sharing among the NDA constituents, RCP said a consensus has been made on the issue and soon a decision would be announced. He also claimed that everything is fine in the NDA and there is not hue and cry on the issue of seat sharing.
"A consensus has been made among the NDA partners on seat sharing and soon a formal announcement would be made. Everyone will get respectable seats," Singh said.
On the issue of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act row, which has been hijacked by the RJD in Bihar, Singh said the RJD never did anything for the benefit of the Dalits and the poor.
"The RJD got the opportunity to rule the state for 15 years but they never did anything for the EBCs that could be counted as achievement. Today the same party is shedding crocodile tears in the name of Extremely Backward Classes. It is the JDU, which has always given voice to the EBC demands," Singh said.
