Patna, March 17: For an artist, his canvas is his playground said Bireswor Bhattacherjee, one of the artists who attended the all-India printing, painting and sculpture camp, Rang Aakar 2 at the College of Arts and Crafts, Patna,

Bhattacherjee, who was awarded a scholarship to study art in Istanbul in 1969, is one of the artists who will showcase their work at Gandhi Maidan on Bihar Divas.

The camp, organised by non-governmental organisation Rang Vikalp, also attracted other artists who have used folk and contemporary styles in their works.

National Academy Award winner Milan Das, another artist, said: “Because this work is for Bihar Divas, I have tried to show the hidden art forms of remote villages. Villagers use these forms — Kohvar art forms of Bhagalpur — to decorate their homes.”

Das’s painting is not a paean to his motherland but a personal landmark. “For a painter, his painting is all that he experiences. For me, my work has a special place in my heart,” said Das.

Rang Vikalp secretary Sanyasi Red said: “Such camps are needed to revive the culture of Bihar. We hope to arrange more camps so that people become familiar with various art forms.” Anjani Kumar Singh, principal secretary of the human resource development department, has promised a cultural institute that will be set up by 2017, said Red.
