Hues of Holi

Colours of course come first, cricket close second this year.

Dip in riot of colours in the morning. Smear gulal on friends and relatives. Burry differences, point water guns even at foes.

Tap toes to the beats of dhol or DJ’s tune. Fagua (Holi songs, mostly in Bhojpuri) is also welcome.

Gulp thandai laced with bhang. But don’t get your eyes blurred. Mahi (Mahendra Singh Dhoni)’s men would take on Gayle & Co. on Friday in a World Cup qualifier in Perth.

Colour of season

Keep it simple. Keep it blue. This is the World Cup year. Come on, we don’t want to give it (the Cup) back. The final is barely three weeks away.Cheers to Men in Blue!

Excuse me, please!

Party and tour plans, not files and deadlines, were the buzzwords at workstations in government and
corporate offices on Wednesday in the run-up to a welcome break from work over the next four days

The secretariat, banks and most other offices would be closed for two days for Holi — on March 5 and 6 — before the weekend

“While around 25 per cent of the people have taken leave today (Wednesday), those like me have opted for half-day for heading home,” said Harishankar, a senior official working in the New Secretariat

Woods are lovely

Patna divisional forest officer Gopal Singh has issued an order to file FIR against those found pruning standing trees for Holika Dahan. Three patrolling teams of the forest department would be on roads

Ashok Ghosh, faculty member at AN College and an environment expert, suggested though burning wood causes the least pollution only waste wood material should be used for Holika Dahan

Shoppers’ top

Holi material stalls at New Market, Patna Market and the Boring Road area

Organic colours are in great demand because of less side-effect on the skin in comparison to chemical colours

Holi is incomplete without sweets. Avoid khowa-made sweets and opt for those made with dry fruits and besan to keep away from adulteration

Sweet sips

Bhang (preparation from female cannabis plant), considered to be main prasad (offerind) to Lord Shiva, is widely consumed in Holi

Serpentine queues at thandai shops expected from Thursday

Banarsi Pan Bhandar at Dak Bungalow Chowk and Rajdhani Pan Bhandar at Mauryalok Complex are the places to go

Price of a bottle of thandai mixed with limited quantity of bhang varies in the range of Rs 20 to 30

Weather watch

Weather will be dry during festival of colours
Maximum temperature will hover around 28-29°C
Minimum will be in the range of 17-18°C
Mainly clear skies
No rainfall expected on Holi-days
Westerly wind will blow at normal speed of 4 to 8kmph

Cops on toes

Leaves of all police officers cancelled for Holi

The security arrangement for Holi was reviewed in a high- level meeting at state police headquarters on Tuesday evening. Additional- director general of police Alok Raj chaired it

Rapid Action would be deployed
“Around 4,000 additional personnel would be deployed to maintain law and order with special emphasis on Patna, Nawada, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Rohtas and Saran. Around 3,500 suspected troublemakers have been served notices under Section 107 of CrPC,” said Alok
