Patna/Gaya, April 4: The Central University of Bihar (CUB) on Thursday moved a step ahead in setting up its permanent campus in Gaya with the launch of four postgraduate and an equal number of undergraduate courses.
The university would offer the courses from the 2013-14 academic session, stated the newly launched prospectus of the CUB, Gaya.
The new programmes include, postgraduate in political science, sociology, Hindi and English. The student intake in all the four programmes will be 20 each. Officials said the admissions would be done on the basis of Central Universities Common Entrance Test (Cucet). The Cucet for the postgraduate courses would be conducted on June 15 and 16.
With the start of the new programmes in Gaya, the postgraduate courses, which were being run from the CUB, Patna makeshift campus, will be stopped. The number of courses that CUB, Patna, offers will come down to 12 from the existing 16 postgraduate programmes.
The CUB administration also announced the launch of four undergraduate courses from its Gaya wing. The CUB would launch the undergraduate programmes for the first time in the varsity’s history.
The undergraduate courses that were introduced on Thursday include, four-year dual degree programme in BA/BEd, four-year dual degree in BSc/BEd. Also five-year integrated programmes in BA/LLB and BSc/LLB were introduced.
“With the launch of four new programmes the number of courses offered by CUB has gone up to 20,” CUB registrar Mohammed Nehal said. He added that the admission process in undergraduate courses would be done through Cucet. The entrance would be conducted on May 15 and 16. The student intake for undergraduate courses will be 30 each.
On the occasion, CUB vice-chancellor Janak Pandey said: “Bihar has two central universities (Motihari and Gaya). The Gaya campus will surely make its presence felt in the state.”
The CUB, Gaya campus, is coming up at Panchanpur, 16km from Gaya town and 110km from Patna.
