Darbhanga, July 12: Darbhanga Municipal Corporation (DMC) has miserably failed to keep the city clean. Be it a bank or a school, nauseating stench of dumped garbage greets all.

Ram Prakash Purbey, the branch manager of Allahabad Bank at Laheria Sarai, told The Telegraph: “Garbage is dumped in front of the bank, creating problems for customers. It foul smell affects work. The customers cannot park their cars owing to garbage. The corporation employees dump the waste here round the year.”

Bipin Chaudhary Jha, a customer of the bank, said: “The role of DMC needs to be questioned because garbage lies strewn almost along all roads throughout the year.”

Even shopkeepers have to bear the brunt of the filth lying unattended on roads. At GN Ganj Gudri More, shop owners find it difficult to conduct business because of the foul smell emanating from the heaps of waste. Business takes a hit, as customers do not want to visit these shops. Amar Kumar, the owner of Amar Kirana shop, said: “The DMC employees collect garbage from the residential areas and dump it on the main road.”

Traffic crawls at GN Ganj Gudri More as there is a mosque, a bank and Rose Public School near it. The filth adds to the woes of the students, as they have to wait for a long time to cross the road as its width has been shortened owing to the dumping of garbage.

Eqbal Ashraf, a poultry shop owner at Gudri More, said: “Pigs loiter around here and feed on the garbage dumped on the main road. The stink makes life miserable for us. As far as DMC is concerned, it is only on paper and no employee ever cleans the filth.”
