Gaya, March 14: The fate of around 10 professional courses being offered by Magadh University has become uncertain following a recent letter sent by state human resource department (HRD) to the university headquarters.
According to the letter, no teacher or non-teaching staff can be appointed by the university administration.
After the order, the affiliation of these courses by bodies concerned might also be withdrawn if the criterion of appointing certain number of teachers was not fulfilled.
Presently, the Magadh University administration is conducting self-financed professional courses, including bio-technology, environmental science, rural re-construction development management, physiotherapy, bachelor of library science, master in library science, masters in education, bachelors in education, masters in education, mass communication and hotel management.
The faculty teachers for these courses have been appointed on 11-month contract basis. Apart from this, there are some visiting teachers, who get the payment according to the number of classes they take.
However, the contract of the faculty teachers has expired. Now, in view of the recent HRD order, there is an uncertainty over the re-appointment of the faculty of these courses, as it would require advertising the post and arranging an interview of the aspirants, said a source.
Israil Khan, the director of directorate of distance education (DDE), said: “Several departments among these have already developed their infrastructure. The DDE, which was established in 2007, has been running a number of vocational courses. In DDE itself, there are around 2,000 students enrolled in different courses. There have been 10 faculty teachers appointed on contract.”
