The community college of Patna Women's College will start two courses to bring transgenders into the mainstream.
College principal Marie Jessie announced this during Christmas celebration at the college on Monday.
"From next academic session, the community college will provide two courses - computer literacy programme and communication skill for transgenders. These skills will empower them and boost their morale," said the college principal. Around 20 transgenders enrolled themselves for these courses on Monday.
Lakshmi, a transgender, who was present on the occasion, was overwhelmed by the kindness and love of the college administration.
Lakshmi sang Lag ja gale, while Reshma Prasad, another transgender, said attending the function felt like she was at home and celebrating the festival with family.
Reshma said: "We are highly obliged to the principal and college administration for inviting us and giving us an opportunity to change our lives. Communication and computer skills will help earn a livelihood. I hope other institutions will also respect and give equal opportunities to us."
