Patna, June 11: Dabangg Chulbul Pandey may be a reel icon but imitating him in real life might not be that great an idea after all.
In his bid to crack the discipline whip on young probationary sub-inspectors (PSI) deputed in the state capital, Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Alok Kumar has directed them to attend a parade session twice a week (Tuesday and Friday).
The decision comes after many of these young men, who are all on a one-year probation period before being deputed as sub-inspectors, have been found getting into mindless violence and disorder.
The latest incident of violence occurred on June 9 when two PSIs posted at Rajiv Nagar police station attacked a guard of Sri Krishna Puri Park and beat him up badly a day after they were not allowed to enter the under-renovation park.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Alok Kumar said the parade sessions would make them more disciplined, conscious and also put in positive thinking in them.
“The police feel this (the parade) will help discipline them. The men will have to be present at the police lines twice a week — Tuesday and Friday — and participate in the parade. The police parades are very important as they make a policeman disciplined, agile, fit and at the same time help the cops start thinking positively. The police cannot act rashly and in an indisciplined way,” the senior officer said.
At present, Patna has 300 PSIs working at different police stations.
On Friday, the state police headquarters, had declared that any PSI found indulging in lawless activities would be dealt with strictly and their probation period would be increased.
“If the man still does not improve and become disciplined, he will be relieved from his service immediately,” diector-general of police Neel Mani said.
He has also asked senior police officials to identify those PSIs who have been found indulging in lawless activities. It has been also decided that the deputy superintendents of police will be in-charge of their training.
