Patna, Jan.16: Bihar policemen, hold your breath! This is the time to get rewarded or punished from none other than the state top cop.
The state police headquarters is busy reviewing the annual performance assessment reports of all the deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), circle inspectors (CIs) and the station house officers (SHOs) posted in field (districts) for the past one year.
The performance assessment reports of the police officers were sent to the director-general of police (DGP) office by the inspectors-general (IGs) of the four police zones recently. The assessment reports of the IGs would decide the fate of the police personnel given field assignments.
“The assessment reports prepared by the zonal IGs have reached the police headquarters,” confirmed additional director-general of police (headquarters) P.K. Thakur.
He said the assessment reports of the DSPs, circle inspectors and the station house officers were being analysed.
Thakur said: “All the police officers are not of equal calibre. But we want to see whether the investigating officers or their supervising officers have put in their maximum effort in detection or investigation of the cases.”
Sources said the performance assessment reports of these officers would decide whether they would continue in the same posting or would be removed from field.
DGP Neel Mani had asked all the zonal IGs in December last year to submit the performance assessment reports of the DSPs, circle inspectors and the station house officers by December 20.
Most of the IGs sent their reports in sealed envelopes to the police headquarters within the stipulated time.
“Those police officers, whose performance in the investigation and supervision of the cases are found to be dissatisfactory, would be removed from field postings,” said a senior police officer, who has been assigned to go through the assessment reports. The police officer said the process of shunting out non-performers would start once the final report is submitted to the DGP.
“But there are some discrepancies in the assessment reports of few police officers, which have delayed the process,” he added. The non-performing police officers would be removed in phases.
“The motive behind seeking the performance reports of the police officers is to fix the responsibility of the officers for containing criminal incidents in the areas falling under their jurisdiction,” said Neel Mani.
