Darbhanga: A police inspector's son has made it to the Indian Police Service (IPS) by confirming his 252nd rank in the civil services examination, 2017, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.
Daya Nath Jha, an 1982 batch officer in the Bihar police from Darbhanga, shared his son Gyanesh's accomplishment with pride. "It's a proud moment for me and my family that Gyanesh has qualified in the civil services examination. We are expecting to get an IPS for him. According to his rank and the ratio of available vacancies, Gyanesh's chances to get into the police service are higher," said Daya Nath.
A resident of Tumaul village in Darbhanga, Daya Nath, said owing to his regular transfer postings, he sent Gyanesh to Delhi, where he was admitted in the Apollo International School, Sonipat. Gyanesh was there till Class X. In Plus Two, he took admission in Mount Carmel School, Delhi, with humanities as his subject. Gyanesh graduated from Venkateshwar College, Delhi, in political science and completed his postgraduation in 2015 from Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU).
To understand Gyanesh's success story, The Telegraph called him up. "The fact that civil services offers great scope for public service and is a great career opportunity for young working professionals motivated me," said Gyanesh.
The youth said this was his second attempt, the first being in 2016 right after his MA. He could not qualify for the interview then. "My past experience helped me focus on the reason behind my failure and work diligently upon it."
"UPSC aspirants must focus on relevant topics, religiously revise what they have prepared for and be consistent with the time they dedicate to their studies," said Gyanesh.
When asked about how it would feel to work with his father, who was promoted to the inspector-rank in 2010, he said his father would be as proud as he would feel blessed.
