Patna, Aug. 21: Police, eager to enforce the ban on tinted glass for cars, have sent letters to the Speaker of Vidhan Sabha and the chairman of Vidhan Parishad, asking them to provide a list of names of legislators, who have been given permission to use dark glasses for their vehicles.

Those who do not have the required permission but still use tinted glass for their vehicles would have to follow the rules of the Motor Vehicles Act, said city central superintendent of police (SP) Shivdeep Lande, who is also the traffic SP.

Lande told The Telegraph: “The letters were sent last week. At present, we are waiting for a reply.”

According to the rules, the windscreen of a vehicle should have 80 per cent visibility, whereas the side screens and the rear should have 50 per cent and 30 per cent visibility respectively.

“There are some special cases in which legislators, VIPs, ministers, policemen and bureaucrats are allowed to have windows that are absolutely dark. Those who are under X, Y or Z grade security can have dark windows. Also, police parties on special operation, against criminals or Naxalites, can use dark glass. Ministers, legislators and policemen, who are on the hit list of Maoists, and people’s representatives from Naxalite-hit areas are allowed by the state government to use tinted glass for their cars,” said Lande.

“Once we have the list of legislators, who have been given special permission, we can make sure that others follow the rules,” the officer said.

He added that a similar letter had been sent to the transport commissioner. “The transport commissioner has been requested to provide the list of bureaucrats who have been given special permission,” Lande said.

On July 9 this year, seven people, accused of murdering one Harish Paswan, were arrested from an SUV with dark glasses, owned by Danapur MLA Asha Sinha.
