Patna: Armed police have been deployed to ensure safety and security of the minor children staying at the Safeenah Bal Grih on Morcha Road under Chowk police station area of Patna City after a group of local residents tried to storm the shelter home late on Wednesday night.
A patrol team attached to the Chowk police station rushed to the spot and foiled the attempt to break into the shelter home.
Patna City additional superintendent of police (ASP) Baliram Kumar Choudhary said police personnel have been deployed in view of tension prevailing in the locality.
Police on Wednesday had raided the Bal Grih after local residents heard children crying. The local residents too wanted to enter the correction home, being run by an NGO called Safeenah, and clashed with the police when they were stopped. The cops had to resort to mild lathicharge to tame the crowd of local residents which started pelting stones, damaging a police vehicle.
The situation was contained after the intervention of senior police officers.
Patna district magistrate Kumar Ravi has ordered an inquiry into Wednesday's incident and sought a report from Patna City sub-divisional officer (SDO) Rajesh Raushan.
"I have received the order of Patna district magistrate. Patna City executive magistrate Umesh Kumar Singh is investigating the matter. He has not submitted his report till now," the SDO said.
Chowk police station house officer (SHO) Mithilesh Kumar Sinha said an FIR has been lodged against 35 unknown persons on the statement of a police personnel.
Superintendent of the Bal Grih Vijay Lal Yadav told The Telegraph over phone that the three boys who had escaped from the shelter could not be traced. On Thursday, three children, two from Khusrupur in rural Patna and one from Nawada district, were released from the Bal Grih and handed to their parents on the direction of the child protection welfare committee.
