Two persons, including a police constable, were arrested on Tuesday morning for allegedly trying to kidnap a property dealer.
The constable, identified as Vinod Kumar Rai, is reported to be a bodyguard of the brother of a former Lok Janshakti Party MP, sources told The Telegraph.
An Insas rifle was found on Rai, police said.
The incident occurred in the morning in the Khemnichak area under Ram Krishna Nagar police station.
“Around 9am on Tuesday, three persons came in an SUV to meet Chandrama Prasad, alias Tuntun, a property dealer,” a police officer said.
“All that we know still now is that there was a land dispute and the three men had come to settle the row. However, the discussion between them led to an altercation and the situation turned violent. The three men forcibly pushed Prasad into the car and were about to drive off when a few residents of the area saw the pandemonium and intervened,” he added.
“Of the three, two men were caught. The third man, identified as Munna Sao, escaped. The residents then handed them over to the police,” the officer said.
Apart from Rai, Mohammed Firoz, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested. During interrogation, the police found that Rai was the bodyguard of the former MP’s brother.
“However, the fact needs to be checked,” the police officer said.
Sources said Rai is a constable with the Bettiah police. “The duo are being questioned to find out the reason behind the feud and the attempted kidnap,” the officer added.
