Fourteen teams took part in the 1st Intra-Moot Court Competition organised by the School of Law and Governance of Central University of South Bihar on November 29.
The issue covered in the proposition was Constitutional Law and Information Technology Law. The final round of competition was held between Team J, which included Ragini Kumari, Vishal Kumar Singh and Himanshu Sekhar, and Team M, comprising Ashwani Kumar, Anjani Kumar and Vivek Kumar.
Team J was declared the winner of the competition, while the best speaker trophy was given to Vishal Kumar Singh. High court advocates Shantanu Kumar and Nirbhay Prashant judged the competition.
Additional solicitor general of Jharkhand High Court P.K. Sinha was the chief guest. While giving away the prizes to the winners, he appreciated the quality of the arguments advanced by the various mooters. He remarked that the procedural knowledge of the participants was excellent.
Ragini Kumari, a third-year student of law and governance, said: “This type of competition grooms law students for bigger challenges ahead. It’s the first time that our college organised such an event. We also get tips from guests on how to make our point during this kind of moot competition,” she added.
Drop of life
National Service Scheme volunteers organised a blood donation camp at Patna Women’s College on December 2. The college’s NSS team and Kurji Holy Family Hospital jointly organised the camp.
The NSS volunteers performed Surya Namaskar and other forms of yogasan. NSS officers Ameeta Jaiswal and Pushpa Sinha led the programme. More than 60 volunteers donated blood during the camp and 25 units were collected. The pathological unit head of the hospital, Reena Sinha, thanked the students for their support and told them that this camp would help the society at large.
College principal Sister Marie Jessie also motivated the students and urged them to step forward to serve the society. Saloni Priya, a second-year student of the English department, said: “Being part of the NSS unit, it is our duty to help the society. I have donated blood thrice in my life and I never felt weak. I also urge people around me to do the same.”
Management tips
Chandragupt Institute of Management (CIMP), Patna, organised executive programme in management for gazetted officers of the state on December 3.
Chief secretary Anjani Kumar Singh, additional general administration secretary Daya Nidhan Pandey and CIMP director V. Mukunda Das were among dignitaries present on the occasion. Sriranga Vishnu, the programme coordinator, said the objective of the programme was to familiarise participants with modern best management practices. “The programme will help enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the officers in delivering public services,” said Vishnu. CIMP director Das said it was the first such programme CIMP started for senior officers similar to the one conducted in many Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
“The participants will be groomed to successfully manage an organisational set-up. People’s expectations from public servants have grown substantially. The training will help participants look beyond their functional area to the larger goal of result-oriented systems of administration,” he said. “Things are changing very fast. Therefore, everybody needs to be updated at regular intervals. This programme will give insight to all participants to do managerial analysis of any situation,” said the chief secretary.
Patron’s Day
St Xavier’s College celebrated Patron's Day in honour of St Francis Xavier, the patron saint of the Society of Jesus and one of its founding members, on its campus on December 3.
The function began with the lamp-lighting ceremony, the garlanding of the portrait of St Francis Xavier. Additional education secretary K. Senthil Kumar, who was the chief guest, asked students to follow St Francis Xavier who dedicated his life to the service of others. Basanti Lakra, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, and college principal T. Nishaant were also present at the event. A cultural programme was also organised on the occasion in which students staged a musical drama depicting scenes from the life of St Francis Xavier.
