Patna, Nov. 12: Chief minister Nitish Kumar today announced wi-fi connectivity in all colleges and universities across the state, emphasising his commitment towards computer literacy.

"We have decided to provide wi-fi connectivity free of cost at all universities and colleges in the state by February," Nitish said while addressing a chetna (awareness) rally on the fourth day of his Nishchaya (resolve) yatra at Belsand in Sitamarhi district.

He, however, issued a caveat to the youths. "You must use the Internet facility purposefully... don't squander your talent by downloading films," the chief minister told them. He pointed out that Bihar was full of talented students. "But one can't do anything without computer literacy in the current era."

Nitish said his government was committed to making the youths computer literate. "All the block headquarters will be equipped with skill development centres and all district headquarters will have district registration offices to register the skilled youths and arrange jobs in accordance with their skill," he said.

The chief minister reiterated that the state government would give credit cards worth Rs 4 lakh each to all students desirous of pursuing higher education after clearing Plus II. "We've already announced payment of unemployment allowance worth Rs 1,000 per month to youths aged 22 to 25 to enable them to search jobs in accordance with their qualifications," he said.

Nitish stressed that his Saath Nishchaya (seven resolves) was aimed at ensuring quality life for all sections of society. Nitish declared Belsand sub-division in Sitamarhi district as the first sub-division free from open defecation in the state. "I am thankful to the people of Belsand for having toilets in each and every home. Toilets at home will free the people from many diseases that afflict them because of dirt and soiled atmosphere," he said.

Nitish claimed that his seven resolves coupled with clamping of total prohibition had the potential to bring about the realistic social change.

He also inspected an upgraded high school at Madhkaul and directed the authorities to take special care of sanitation and cleanliness in the premises. He also reviewed the effectiveness of public grievance redressal laws and other development related projects in Sitamarhi district.
