Patna, March 29: Students of JD Women’s College will not have to stand in long queues to pay fees anymore. Reason: Internet banking, thanks to a workshop organised on the college premises today by State Bank of India (SBI).
Viddyapati Choudhary, the chief manager, alternative delivery channel and alliance, State Bank of India, said: “Information technology has brought about a tremendous change in states like Andhra Pradesh. Such changes are also possible in our state. If people put all the opportunities to optimum use in e-banking, they will benefit a lot. They will be able to get a lot of work done without the hassles.
“Transferring money from one account to another is no more a difficult task. Students can deposit their college fees with just a click of the mouse. Those who have done it know how effective it is,” added Choudhary.
“Most people are scared of the threat of cyber crimes. People think their bank accounts can be easily hacked into. But in SBI, there are high-level security features like security socket layers (SSL),” he said.
Explaining SSL, Choudhary said: “The new authentication method has been designed by the American company Verisign. It allows the security system to authenticate a computer to ensure that the sign-in is not a fraudulent attempt to access the particular account. The customer’s secret identification and passwords are sent, over the Internet, to SBI through the SSL technology. The moment you log-in, your ID and password are encrypted 256 times. Not even the employees of the bank can accept it.”
He added a password encrypted so many times is impossible to decipher by hackers, as it turns into garbage.
Anjali Kumar, a student attending the workshop, said: “It was very helpful. Now, I will not have to stand for hours to pay my fees. The best part is, I can do my work at anytime and not just banking hours.”
English department head Laxmi Sinha said: “Internet banking has really made the job easy.”
College principal Usha Singh inaugurated the meet. JD (U) MLA Poonam Devi also graced the occasion.
