Patna, April 3: Panic has gripped the inmates of Beur Central Jail following a clash between two groups of prisoners on the jail premises. At least two inmates were injured in the clash. The injured have been admitted to the jail hospital for treatment.
Sources said supporters of Bindu Singh and members of Pandav Sena, a group of criminals belonging to a particular caste, clashed with each other over boarding the prisoners’ van on Saturday. Apprehending trouble, the security personnel raised an alarm.
The situation was brought under control after the intervention of senior officials. Those engaged in clash were later lodged in the special cell meant for the hardened criminals. Jail superintendent Om Prakash Gupta, however, said the situation was under control.
“A group of prisoners created a scene under the influ-ence of alcohol on the issue of boarding the prisoners’ van on Saturday,” a security personnel deputed at the jail said.
Rupam in Beur
Rupam Pathak and Navlesh Pathak, accused in Purnea BJP legislator Rajkishore Keshari’s murder case, have been transferred to the Beur Central Jail from the Purnea divisional jail. They were brought to Patna under tight security arrangements on Saturday night.
“Both of them reached the jail around 9pm on Saturday. They have been lodged in two separate wards. Extra vigil is being maintained because the two are accused in a high-profile murder case,” said Beur jail superintendent Om Prakash Gupta.
Rupam and Navlesh were shifted on the directive of the special judicial magistrate, CBI.
