The Association of Physicians of India and the Bihar Institute of Gastroenterology organised a Gastro-Update workshop at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Sunday. Gastroenterologists talked about the ailment diseases and how to take measures to counter those. PMCH gastroenterology department head Dr Vijay Prakash Singh talked about abdominal tuberculosis in the programme. “In some cases, doctors fail to diagnose the disease. It is advisable for medicos to do the laparoscopy test of the patients, said Singh. Dr Sanjiv Thakur talked about various treatments available for Hepatitis B patients, while Dr Utpal Anand talked about inflammatory bowel disease. 

“The disease mainly occurs owing to obstruction or bleeding in the large intestine,” said Anand. A quiz competition on gastroenterology related disorders was also organised. Postgraduate students of the medicine department of PMCH and Nalanda Medical College and Hospital took part.

Sharda Vikas Mandir will clash with Aadarsh International School in the final of the 3rd All India Veer Kunwar Singh Gold Cup Inter School Under-17 T20 Cricket Tournament at Moinul Haque Stadium on Monday.
In the first semi-final match played on Sunday, Sharda Vikas Mandir defeated Saint Kabir Academy by five wickets with Neeraj Kumar of the winning team being adjudged Man of the Match for scoring an unbeaten 41. Batting first, Saint Kabir Academy made 114 runs in 19.3 overs with Faizan and Atif scoring 44 and 23, respectively. In reply, Sharda Vikas Mandir made 117 runs in 17.4 overs for the loss of five wickets. Apart from Neeraj, Kaifi was the other major contributor with the bat, scoring 31, clinching a comfortable win for Sharda Vikas Mandir. In the second semi-final, Patliputra Public School was all out for 35 runs in 12.1 overs as only Baljit could register a double-digit score of 12. While Dhruv took three wickets, Sagar Tiwari took two scalps to send the opposition batsmen packing. Aadarsh International won the match with ease scoring the required runs in 4.3 overs without losing any wickets to clinch a final berth.

Thakur bats for slums 

Former Union minister and BJP Rajya Sabha member Dr C.P. Thakur on Sunday threw his weight behind Aashray Abhiyan, a non-government organisation, working for the cause of urban poor, demanding rehabilitating of slum dwellers of Malahi Pakri, who were allegedly evicted without an alternative arrangement.
Dr Thakur said according to rules, the Centre could help on this front only if the state government provides land for making dwelling units for displaced people but the same was not being done. “The apathy of the state on this front has stalled the support which could have come from the Centre,” he said. 

Weekend art workshop 

Upendra Maharathi Shilp Anusandhan Sansththan, an institution working to promote art forms, on Sunday organised a workshop to impart training. The workshop imparted training in six different art forms - Madhubani painting, Tikuli art, Sikki art, paper art, terracotta art and appliqué art. Sansthan director Ashok Kumar Sinha said the institute conducts a six-month training programme twice a year apart from summer camps and workshops for children. 
This workshop, however, was a first-of-its-kind, as adults took part. It started in the form of hobby classes and would be held throughout the year on weekends. The Madhubani painting workshop drew the largest crowd.
