Patna, April 29: Jyoti Shekhar, a Patna University (PU) teacher dismissed on charges of irregularities in the admission process of the MBA course, was reinstated today by an order issued by the chancellor’s (Governor Devanand Konwar) office.

The letter from the chancellor’s office said: “The order of dismissal can take effect only if the result of the appeal is pronounced negative and as such and till then, the Patna University is hereby ordered to allow Dr Shekhar to resume his duties and rejoin his post with immediate effect.”

Shekhar, teacher in department of economics and commerce, was charged with committing irregularities in the admission for the MBA course for 2006-2008 session, as three students had been admitted to the course on the basis of fake Management Aptitude Test.

In 2009, Shekhar was suspended by former PU vice-chancellor Shyam Lal, without a showcause notice. Later, the university appointed retired ADG B.P. Srivastava to probe the case. On the basis of Srivastava’s report, Shekhar was issued a letter, in January 2010, asking him to explain why his services should not be terminated.

On June 3, 2010, PU dismissed Shekhar. There was hue and cry among the teachers after Shekhar’s suspension, and the matter was also raised in the Assembly by former human resource development minister Harinarayan Singh.
