Mahatma Gandhi's Champaran agitation will feature in the state government's tableau, which will make a comeback after two years, in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
The government's tableau will depict a scene from 1917, where the young Mahatma Gandhi arrived in Champaran to listen to the grievances of the indigo farmers who the British plantation owners were exploiting.
Munger-born actor Rajan Kumar will portray Mahatma Gandhi in the tableau."I feel proud to have been given the opportunity to play Mahatma Gandhi," said Rajan Kumar, who has starred in a Hindi movie - Shaher Maseeha Nahin - to be released this Holi.
The director of the state public relation department in Patna, Bipin Kumar Singh, told The Telegraph: "The state government will present its tableau in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi."
Sharda Sinha, a singer from the state, will also present a 54-second song on the Champaran struggle.
Officer on special duty, Bihar Bhavan (New Delhi), Shailendra Kumar, who is acting as Bihar's nodal officer during parade rehearsals told The Telegraph: "Ten artistes from Bihar - Rajan Kumar (Munger), Sonu Kumar Poddar (Lakhisarai), Jitendra Kumar Yadav (Sasaram), Vivek Singh Yadav (Rohtas), Kumari Komal (Patna), Appu Sharma (Champaran), Chandan Kumar (Fatuha, Patna), Raghav (Patna), Pankaj Kumar (Nirmali) and Kumari Nimi - are undergoing rigorous training under the guidance of the defence ministry personnel at Rajpath."
