| In demand: Central University of Bihar |
The acceptance of Central University of Bihar (CUB) is growing among students across the nation. Compared to last year, sixteen more students from outside the state have taken admission to the varsity this session.
As many as 24 students from Bengal, Rajasthan, Kerala, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and other states have taken admission to the CUB in 2012. Only eight students form outside the state took admission last year. Two among them left the varsity midway after securing jobs.
The central university registrar, Mohammed Nehal, attributed the surge in the number of students joining the varsity from other states to better teaching and learning methodology with limited resources.
He said: “Despite limited resources, the varsity has tried to provide the best to its students. It is because of the varsity’s efforts that students from other states are joining CUB in large number.”
Of the 160 admissions this year against the intake capacity of 315, five students hail from Bengal, four from Uttar Pradesh and three from Rajasthan. Twelve others are from Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Jharkhand. The classes will start on August 21.
Nehal said though the university had been functioning from BIT-Patna, placements have always been good. This helped a lot in attracting students from all over the country, he said.
“The varsity has been successful in getting students from other states because we have created a niche with good placement record. We have a good faculty. We have been extremely positive regarding appointment of teachers and launching new courses,” he said.
With the launch of seven new courses this year, the varsity has also appointed a large number of teachers. Among the new courses, MTech in computer science, having the intake capacity of 15, has been able to attract five students from other states.
Nehal said: “The other reason behind students from other states joining the varsity is that none of the seven participating universities, which accept Central Universities Common Entrance Test score, offer masters degree course in environmental science, life science, bioinformatics and sociology, and MTech programme in computer science.”
Vijeta Kumar, a second-year postgraduate student of journalism, said: “We have a very good faculty. CUB teachers are no less compared to those in other premier institutes. Moreover, the university helps students in getting internship in reputed companies.”
