The Patna district administration has decided to issue showcause notices to schools that have failed to install CCTV cameras.
The administration issued a directive following the Bodhgaya blasts to help schools keep a tab on visitors. The cameras had to be installed by July 31.
District magistrate N. Saravana Kumar said schools had to install cameras at vantage points from where suspicious characters outside could be monitored. But even after the deadline, it appears most schools had not installed these. Some already had the facility and some had faulty ones. Schools that have not installed these would be showcaused.
A.G. de Rozario, director of Don Bosco Academy, said: “We have CCTV cameras (for a year). Thus, we can check what is happening inside the school. We have even caught students who bunk classes.”
Among schools that have CCTV cameras are St Michael’s High School, St Joseph’s Convent High School, Carmel High School, Radiant International School and St. Karen’s Secondary School.
A. Dutta, media in-charge of St Karen’s Secondary School said: “We have CCTV cameras in the school. We can watch students and others come and go. We also have a police force in the morning and when classes are over.”
DPS Patna has CCTV cameras that do not work, a teacher confirmed. Among schools that have not installed them are DAV Gola Road, Ishaan International Public School, Ishaan International Girls’ School, Rose Bud School, St Severin’s School and others. Principal of Rose Bud School, Rizvi said: “The wiring is done... cameras would be installed soon.” She didn’t say why the deadline was not met.
S.K. Jha, in charge of DAV Gola Road, said: “Cameras not installed but negotiations are on.” Vice-principal of Ishaan International Public School, Amrawati Singh said: “We’ll install it as the DM has instructed us to.”
