Begusarai, April 4 (PTI): A man contesting the panchayat elections for the post of village chief of Rajopur in Begusarai district was shot by motorcycle-borne assailants today.

Shyam Sunder and his cousin Rohit Kumar were shot near Mushpura bridge under Nimchand police station.

Rohit was also killed in the shootout while another person, Umesh Paswan, was badly injured, a senior police officer said.

Both Shyam and Rohit died on the spot and Paswan suffered bullet injuries and was admitted to a government hospital deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Vivekanand said.

His condition was stated to be critical, the DSP added.
