Patna, Oct. 5: The state cabinet today gave its nod to a new scheme — Mukhyamantri Chapakal Yojana — in order to ensure smooth water supply in all the 38 districts.

“The cabinet approved the proposal of the public health and engineering department to provide water supply in every district. It also sanctioned Rs 225 crore for the scheme to be spent over the next five years,” said Vijoy Prakash, the principal secretary of the department who also holds the additional charge of the cabinet co-ordination department.

Providing details of the scheme, Prakash said it would be implemented on the recommendation of MLAs and MLCs.

Legislators representing rural areas can recommend five hand pumps for every panchayat. Others can recommend three hand pumps in every ward of corporations, two in every ward of municipal councils and one in every ward of nagar panchayats. MLCs can also recommend 100 hand pumps for their constituencies.

The cabinet also approved the agriculture department’s proposal to construct an e-Kisan Bhavan at an estimated cost of Rs 242 crore over the next four years, Prakash said. It would help in organising training programmes for farmers. Altogether 14 decisions were taken at the cabinet meeting.
