The whereabouts of four-year-old Bunty Kumar, kidnapped on July 13, remain unknown even after five arrests.

Family members are worried and on Tuesday the child's 70-year-old grandmother, Jamunia Devi, came to the police headquarters and met Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Vikas Vaibhav, pleading for prompt action to recover her grandson.

"Until now, the police have not been able to find the child. Though five persons have been arrested and sent to jail in this connection, the missing child remains a worry for the police. Investigations are on and the police are trying to get leads," the SSP told The Telegraph.

Bunty, the son of Naik Rai, a businessman, had gone missing while playing outside his home in Balwant Tola locality under the jurisdiction of Maner police station area last month.

The next morning, Naik received a ransom call for Rs 8 lakh. The caller asked Naik to be present near Patna Junction with the money once he is called again. The next call, however, never came.

Patna SP (West) Rajeev Mishra, when contacted on Tuesday, said the case had not developed any further.

"We had got some leads on the missing boy but when we zeroed in on the kid, it was not not Bunty," the SP said.

The police claimed they had arrested five people, all relatives of the child's father, and sent them to jail.

"All the five arrested people are relatives of Naik Rai. The phone from which the ransom call was made has also been recovered. But the boy has not been found yet. It is difficult to say anything right now, but it is worrying that the boy has been missing for so long. With so much police and political pressure, those involved might have panicked and changed plan. Bunty is four years old and can identify those who kidnapped him," another police officer said.
