Sub-inspector Abhishek Pratap Singh, posted at Patrakar Nagar police station, was suspended on Friday after a video surfaced in which he was seen threatening the manager of a city hotel.

The incident occurred on January 30, when Singh barged into hotel Gaurav in the Rajendra Nagar area and demanded a room for free from the hotel manager.

The sub-inspector threatened the manager of dire consequences if he failed to provide the room.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said: "When the we came to know about the incident, I suspended the sub-inspector."

The police are also conducting a probe into the incident, the SSP added.

According to footage from the hotel's closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, Singh reached the hotel in the evening of January 30 along with police personnel from Telangana.

The police personnel from Telangana had come to Patna in connection with the investigation of a case.

Singh, who had accompanied them, told the manager to provide a room for them. The manager told them that all the rooms were full. However, the sub-inspector kept on insisting that the manager provide a room for his guests.

Later, the sub-inspector even called up the hotel owner, Ram Babu Singh, asking him to provide a room for his guests. When the hotel owner also said he was helpless, Singh allegedly abused him. The sub-inspector allegedly declared that he was not scared of anyone, including the SSP.

The hotel owner, however, kept mum about the incident and did not complain at the police station concerned.

"We were not aware of any such incidents as no complaint was registered by the hotel authorities in this connection," said Patrakar Nagar police station house officer Sanjit Kumar Sinha.

When the CCTV footage went viral, sources said, the Patna police took action on their own in an effort to reinforce confidence among the public that abuse of power would not be tolerated in the force.
