
It rained jobs this year at IIT-Patna.
Around 74 per cent of the students has been placed at different companies. If one compares the trend with last year, the placements figure is 15 per cent more till December. Last year, the figure was 60 per cent.
If one goes by numbers, of around 120 students in the final year, about 88 students have received jobs. The 88 students who have received job this year are in 22 companies, which have visited the institute for placements. Sources said the phase II of placement will start from January.
IIT-Patna was established in 2008 and this year it shifted to its new permanent campus at Bihta around 40km west of Patna. There has also a jump in the average pay package as compared to the previous year.
A final-year student placed with Wipro said: "Most students this year have received dream jobs with a satisfactory pay package."
Last year, the average pay package was Rs 8.5 lakh per annum, which has jumped this year to Rs 10.5 lakh per annum. IIT-Patna placement in-charge K.C. Ray said: "The placement has shown better trend due to reasons such as improvement in market, good relations with recruiters and the institution becoming a seven-year-old institution."
Sources said the institute brand value jumped after IIT-Patna student Ashutosh Agarwal was offered Rs 1.8 crore by Google.
Sources said that this year the main recruiters are IT, core companies and even biomedical companies.
Biomedical companies such as Ahmedabad-based Ezdi LLC, has recruited six students in an annual package of Rs 12 lakh per annum. Followed by Ezdi LLC, UnitedHealth Group, a Hyderabad-based biomedical company, has recruited seven students at a package of Rs 12 lakh per annum.
