Protest against schools

Patna: The Chhatra Abhibhavak Sangharsh Samiti marched in the city on Sunday in protest against the high-handedness of private school authorities during admissions for the new academic session.

The members marched from Kargil Chowk to JP Roundabout near Gandhi Maidan, demanding a regulatory body be formed to stop private schools from acting on whims.

Centre ban

Patna: The central government has banned monocrotophos, the insecticide that killed 23 students of the government primary school at Dharmasati-Gandaman village in Saran district in July 2013. The ban comes in the wake of a recommendation from an Indian Agriculture Research Institute expert committee to ban 18 insecticides that are dangerous for human beings and animals. After the 2013 tragedy, the forensic report had said the midday meal served to the students in Gandaman was contaminated with monocrotophos.

Start-up

Patna: The Bihar Entrepreneurs Association on Sunday demanded start-up centres be established in the districts to help people gather information about such enterprises. The association also demanded the government to raise the tax limit for start-ups from the present three years to seven years.

Cricket match

Patna: The Patna District Junior Division Cricket League tournament will start from February 8. The Anisabad cricket club will play the first match against YAC Rajendranagar. The event will end on February 17.

Exam cheats 

Nawada/Patna, Feb. 5 (PTI): Twenty-seven people were arrested today for allegedly helping candidates cheat through electronic devices in the Bihar Staff Selection Commission examination in Nawada district. Acting on a tip-off, a police team headed by Pakri Barama sub-divisional police officer Ram Pukar Singh raided a house on the Warsaliganj Bypass road and arrested the people. 

In Patna, five persons were arrested from an examination centre in Kankerbagh. They appeared in the examination with fake IDs.

Ammo haul

Patna: Special task force personnel seized 160 unfinished pistols and arrested two arms dealers from Jamalpur in Munger district on Sunday. The duo had brought the consignment to Munger from Malda, Bengal. 

Raid

Patna: Special task force personnel carried out intensive raids on liquor brewing centres in Raghopur diara on Sunday.
