Teens drown

Patna: Two teenagers drowned in the Ganga on Wednesday while bathing in the river near the Digha police station area. The victims have been identified as Vikas Nagar residents Sonu Kumar (17) and Sameer (17). The bodies were sent for post-mortem after divers fished them out.

Wage protest

Patna: Members of National Insurance Company Officers' Association on Wednesday demonstrated in support of their charter of demands, including wage revision and pension scheme.

Doctors' call

Patna: The state chapter of Indian Medical Association has written to chief minister Nitish Kumar for increasing the retirement age of doctors from 65 to 67 years with retrospective effect from December 2014.

Patna: Lions Club of Patna Vishal will open a Roti bank in Patna, said the new president of the club, Diljeet Khanna, on Wednesday. The bank would collect and provide food to the needy everyday.

Organic drive launch

Patna: Tarumitra Ashram on Wednesday launched an all-India campaign involving students of various schools and colleges to spread the word on the necessity of organic farming.

Students of St Xavier's College, Patna, kicked off the campaign by sowing organic rice seeds.#

Anti-ragging

Bettiah: Government Medical College, Bettiah, has formed an anti-ragging team to fight the practice in the institution. Principal Rajeev Ranjan Prasad on Wednesday said students found guilty of the cognisable offence would be expelled.

Bhagalpur: Amar Nath Singh, a former research scholar of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University, has been selected for a fellowship by the Indian Phytopathological Society.

Patna: Dreamy Droshky Trust, which provides differently abled children free education, celebrated its second anniversary on Wednesday (a member cuts a cake to mark the occasion in picture by Jai Prakash). The trust helps children by distributing books and utility products among them.

Toddy death

Chhapra: Two persons died at Sikta village on Tuesday evening, while five others took ill after consuming adulterated toddy. Police said the toddy shop owner, Jogendra Chaudhry, has been caught.

Saharsa: Rapid erosion and mounting pressure on the embankments of the Kosi have led to fears of the river flooding the areas around it.

Loot arrest

Hajipur: Gangster Chunnu Thakur was arrested late on Tuesday night with four of his associates from Subhai Jamalpur village in Vaishali district. He is a suspect in the case of Rs 4.8 lakh loot from the petrol pump owned by former minister Veena Shahi.
