Patna: 10 Circular Road has not seen as much joy as it did on Friday, the first of RJD chief Lalu Prasad's three-day parole and a day before his son Tej Pratap ties the knot.
News of a provisional bail for Lalu and dismissal of another case against Tejashwi in the Jharkhand High Court lifted the family's spirits. Sources said an elated Lalu called up his would-be daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai to say her arrival was proving to be lucky for him. Tejashwi and three other leaders got relief from Jharkhand High Court in a criminal contempt case. The contempt notice was issued by a CBI special court in Ranchi for statements Tejashwi and others had made about the law after Lalu's conviction.
An RJD leader and family friend who was at 10 Circular Road told The Telegraph: "Even Rabri Devi said her bahu had proved lucky for the family." Earlier, the family associated luck with Lalu's youngest daughter, Raj Lakshmi, after whose birth Lalu first became chief minister in 1990.
Given the spate of bad luck in the recent past the family was not taking chances. Green chillies and lemons were seen hanging from the gate at 10 Circular Road to ward off evil.
Lalu kept a distance from journalists, in adherence to his parole conditions, but guests kept arriving all day. Baba Ramdev was there. Senior Congress leader and Supreme Court advocate Abhishek Singhvi arrived on a chartered flight from Jharkhand after getting provisional bail for Lalu from the high court.
"With Karnataka polls on Saturday, many Congress and BJP leaders may not make it to the wedding," a senior RJD leader said. Even deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi is in Poland.
