Dr Usha Sharma addresses a symposium organised by Rotary Patliputra Club on Monday at Sri Arvind Mahila College to mark World Breastfeeding Week. The other speakers at the event were doctors Rita Dayal, Alka Pandey and Anita Sinha. “Breastfeeding is important because it helps develop the immune system of an infant. It also assumes significance because it strengthens the emotional relationship between the mother and the newborn,” Anita Sinha said. “Breastfeed children have lesser risk of developing juvenile diabetes than other children. Even mothers who breastfeed their baby have few chances of developing breast cancer,” Rita Dayal said. A free blood test camp was also organised by the club where many students and teachers of Sri Arvind Mahila College turned up for the examination.
