Kumari Monica's cousin brother is getting married in Gorakhpur. It is almost a 10-day-long affair. The summer vacation could not have come at a better time for the Class IX student of St Karen's Secondary School.
“I’m looking forward to it eagerly. I will get to meet so many of my relatives after such a long time. It will be a great experience,” she says.
More exciting prospects lie ahead for Monica. “Sonal and Prem are two of my favourite cousins. I will meet them after almost three years,” she says.
Would the soaring temperature not dampen the celebrations?
Monica is in no mood to answer such a “ridiculous” question. She has vowed not to think about anything that bothers her. “There shall be no studies, no worries and no tension,” Monica adds.
Seven years younger to Monica is Gargi. She may be only in Class II but her plans for this summer vacation are as good as anyone else.
The student of Delhi Public School, Patna, wants to visit states like Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. She has a lot of plans. From riding horses and visiting elephant caves, Gargi is well aware of the best part of her excursion plan. She also wants to visit the holy Sai Baba temple in Shirdi.
Her travel list does not stop there. “I want to swim at various beaches in Mumbai. I will ask papa and mummy to buy me all the things that I want,” the eight-year-old says.
For Amit Kumar, the summer vacation would be more about books and studies than anything else. The Class XII student of St Dominic Savio's High School says the holidays would be “balanced”.
“I want to balance the vacation well by studying as well as having fun with friends. Among other things, I plan to watch Rowdy Rathore, starring Akshay Kumar, at Cinepolis,” he says.
Fun and movies apart, Amit does not want to forget the all-important board examinations. “The summer vacations would serve as the perfect time for me to prepare for my board and competitive examinations that lie ahead,” he says.
Sana Rahman is on the same boat as Amit. A Class XII student of Notre Dame Academy, Sana is in no mood to risk her board result.
Sana says: “I am planning to utilise the vacation in the best possible manner.'
All her focus would be on accounts, as that is the main subject. “This is time for a lot of hard work and serious dedication,” she says.
For once, plans with family, friends and relatives have taken a back seat for the young student. “It would be studies all the way” she adds.
Like Amit and Sana, Nidhi Jha is also in Class XII and is feeling the pressure of board examinations. However, the student of St Joseph's Convent High School refuses to get bogged down by the stress.
In short, this would be a poetic summer vacation for the 16-year-old.
“Apart from studying, I want to write lots of poems in the next few weeks,” she says, asserting that she is in no mood to stop writing poems just for the sake of studies.
Those in Class XII may be trying to strike a balance between studies and fun, but Shubhangi is facing no such crisis.
Reason: She still has three years before she has to do the balancing act.
For now, the Class IX student of Patna Central School is all geared up to take the mall route this summer. “I’ll visit the P&M Mall and watch as many movies as I can at Cinepolis,” she says.
Shubhangi has prepared a list of places in Patna that she wants to visit. “I want to visit Café Coffee Day (CCD) and Gandhi Ghat the most. I love water sports and this summer I plan to go for it,” she says. “I have heard a lot about the floating restaurant, but have never managed to go there. After I'm through with CCD, Cinepolis and water sports, I'd like to go to the floating restaurant,” she says.
The girl is aware that next year, when she is in Class X, there would be a lot of pressure of studies. “Therefore, I want to have all the fun this year,” she adds.
