“I have a logo with crown. Can you name the brand?”

And, no prize for the correct answer. It’s Rolex.

There were many such questions, which teased the brains of participants. The two-day NIFT Fashion Olympiad that kicked off on Sunday at NIFT Mithapur campus, is no less than a fashion fest for the budding Ritu Beris and Rohit Bals.

More than 500 students from leading schools, colleges and educational institutions, including CIMP, CNLU, Patna Women’s College, Notre Dame Academy, BIT, NIT and Design Quest, among others registered themselves for the Olympiad. The competition will be open to students between 15 and 24 years of age who must be certified students pursuing regular programme in a school/college/university across India to compete, exhibit, share and connect. The first competition will be held at campus level.

In order to catapult fashion and creativity, the premier institute has designed the Olympiad in a unique manner. “Almost every section of fashion is included in an NIFT Fashion Olympiad. It is an elaborate form of fest that we organise annually. NIFT Fashion Olympiad is a melting pot of activities around fashion and design with a philosophy of Sanyogam, the eternal connectivity among youth. I am really surprised at the participation of students from across the city,” said Kishlay, an NIFT faculty.

From painting the wall to making jingles to street-style photography to fashion quiz and fashion installation — the Olympiad has covered almost all the micro fashion fields.

Vrinda and Vandana from Design Quest were seen clicking pictures of sketches on notice boards. “I am preparing for the NIFT entrance test. The competition level is quite high,” said Vrinda.

For Vandana, convincing her parents for preparing for entrance to NIFT was not an easy cake. “My parents wanted me to prepare for engineering. I denied and joined the institution against their will. But now when they will see my creation, hope they will be happy,” said Vandana. Both Vrinda and Vandana participated in “fashion ambition”.

The state-level contests and symposium will be organised at NIFT Patna centre. Two finalists from each event and each campus will participate in the finale at NIFT New Delhi.

Only a creative mind can think about “avenger helicarrier”. Rinku Kumar, along with his team, has decided to make an avenger helicarrier — a helicarrier in air where helicopter can land and take off. “We are participating in junk juxtaposed, where we will install a product from recycled waste items,” said Rinku, a student of Patna University.
