Parents of the 16-year-old girl, who bravely foiled her kidnap bid near Kathalbari Chowk on Thursday morning, do not want their daughter to attend coaching classes till police bring the criminals to book.

Revealing that a fortnight ago a boy had chased his daughter when she was on her way to a coaching class, the father of the girl on Friday, however, said he has faith in the police.

The father said: “Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Garima Malik said she has intensified security arrangements in the area. If required, she will provide us security too. A fortnight ago, a boy had chased my daughter when she was on her way to a coaching class. We were not aware of it. We came to know about the incident only yesterday (Thursday).”

The girl’s father, who did not wish to be named, added: “We have complete faith in the police administration. They will surely solve the case and put the perpetrators behind the bar. We have been assured by the SSP that she will arrest the criminals within a week.”

“My daughter is not attending coaching classes because she is not comfortable yet,” her father said.

“Since my daughter has not come out of the trauma, we have asked her not to attend the coaching classes as of now. But we will make an alternative arrangement so that she could attend the classes. If required, we will escort her to the classes,” girl’s father said.

City superintendent of police Kumar Aikley said: “We have so far not being able to do much but the probe is on. We will soon be able to solve the case. Preliminary investigation suggests that the kidnapping attempt was not made for ransom. It could be possible that the criminals were trying to kidnap to molest her.”

He added: “The girl’s parents should co-operate and divulge information. After a boy chased the girl a fortnight ago, her father did not contact the police. He should speak up.” Her parents do not have any clue about the criminals, who made the abortive kidnapping bid. The girl abstained from speaking to reporters because according to her parents she suffered a mental trauma after five masked men tried to kidnap her.

The girl, a student of a public school, had fought with the criminals and screamed her heart out near the Food Corporation of India godown, leading the residents of the area to come to her rescue.

The timely intervention of the residents, who pelted stones at the criminals, thwarted the kidnap bid.
