Patna, Oct. 4: Additional police deployment and strict security measures will be the order of the day this Dashami when Puja committees will proceed to the ghats for idol immersion.

Police said they are going to take special care of crowded localities and areas with a history of communal tension or violence to maintain law and order on Thursday.

A senior police officer told The Telegraph: “There are many ghats like Collectorate Ghat, Bhadra Ghat, Kali Ghat, Baans Ghat and others where the idols are immersed. Policemen have been deputed at the ghats and they will patrol to ensure that everything is in order and there are no quarrels or scuffles.”

At least four officers and 10 constables have been deployed at each ghat.

The officer also said: “Directions have been given for additional deployment of forces in sensitive areas. Special measures will be taken for places like railway stations, bus stands and religious areas. The officers-in-charge of different police stations have also been asked to physically verify the route the Puja committees would take on the day of immersion. The traffic police will also be present to ensure that there are no snarls and commuters can move safely.”

He added: “Along the route to the ghats, there will be heavy police deployment till early morning. The police would appeal to the people to act in a disciplined way and ensure proper conduct.”

Another officer requested citizens to ensure the safety of their children on the day of immersion. He said: “On the day of immersion, a huge number of people follow the idols and it can always lead to confusion. The Puja committees have been requested to take less people to the ghats. Parents should also ensure that the children don’t visit the ghats. It is the responsibility of the committees to ensure the same.”

The city force, as a final reminder, also requested the public to steer clear of rumours.
