Veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani’s Sunday blog has ruffled quite a few feathers in the NDA with the BJP observing “positive” notes in the write-up while the JD(U) feels it’s just another way to champion a regional party’s cause.
Advani said a non-Congress, non-BJP Prime Minister supported by either of the two parties is “feasible” after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
“Advaniji’s statement in his blog appears to have been presented by the media in a twisted way. Adavniji has pointed out instability of governments in New Delhi that were led by non-BJP and non-Congress PMs — Choudhary Charan Singh, Chandrashekhar, V.P. Singh among others. He has also dismissed any hopes for a third front,” said deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi.
But JD(U) leaders see a silver lining in it. Party president and NDA convener Sharad Yadav said Advani’s contention is based on “prediction” and he does not agree to it.
“Advani is the NDA working chairperson. But he has predicted and I do not go by prediction. UPA will go (after the elections) and NDA will put up a fight,” Yadav said.
“Advaniji has made an honest and objective analysis of the situation. The recent assembly elections have shown the Congress votes declining. But the BJP has not gained either. It’s the regional parties who are getting stronger by the day,” said JD(U) national spokesperson Shivanad Tiwari. He said he had not analysed Advani’s statement in context of the stand-off between Nitish Kumar and Narendra Modi. “But what Advaniji has said is not far from what Nitish is saying,” he added.
When Nitish made a statement on a “secular” PM of NDA, it was widely believed that several senior BJP leaders at the Centre who were worried over Narendra Modi’s growing stature in the party were happy over the development. “Adavniji’s blog comes at a time when Nitish had talks about NDA’s PM candidate with BJP president Nitin Gadkari and also expressed his reservation over Narendra Modi,” said a senior JD(U) leader.
But leaders like BJP state president C.P. Thakur dismissed Advani’s statement as a “personal view”.
