Patna, Aug. 20: BJP national spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain today said the Prime Minister shall be brought under the ambit of Lokpal but the judiciary shall be kept outside its purview.

Addressing a news meet in the party office, Hussain said: “BJP is very clear on the issue of bringing the Prime Minister under the ambit of Lokpal, we truly support the stand but at the same time, the party believes that the judiciary shall be exempted from the purview of the bill. It would not be correct to include the judiciary under the bill.”

Citing the example of his own party, he added: “When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was Prime Minister, he offered to get his post brought under Lokpal but that time we had failed to do so. As far as the content of bill is concerned, the party will express its views in front of the standing committee and also in Parliament. As of now, we want the bill to be introduced in the Parliament as soon as possible so a strong Lokpal Bill can be made.”

Hussain also accused the Congress for suppressing the issue of corruption and saving the face of corrupt people: “The Congress government is afraid. That is why they are trying to save the face of corrupt people, leading them to hesitate on making corruption-free law. You take the example of National Advisory Council, where there are people from civil society.”
