A probe has been ordered into hoisting of a BJP flag by a group of party supporters at a government school in Araria last week to celebrate the party's victory in Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.
The incident occurred at Dak Haripur Girls Middle School near Forbesganj, around 300km northeast of Patna, on March 18. The result of the election was declared on March 11. The school is 30km from the district headquarters.
Party workers were so enthused with the results that they didn't care for the teachers and hoisted the flag on the school campus. The headmaster of the school, Jagdish Mehta, reported the matter to district education officer Faizul Rahman.
Rahman said it was a serious matter and he directed the block education officer of Forbesganj to investigate it and submit a detailed report. "The report is awaited," the headmaster said, adding the people celebrating the party's win didn't pay heed to the teachers' objection.
The headmaster told the district education officer Rahman that they couldn't stop the revellers as they outnumbered them. The incident occurred when the teachers and students were leaving the school. "Action will be taken on the basis of the inquiry report," he told The Telegraph over phone.
Forbesganj sub-divisional police officer Ajit Kumar Singh said: "The police will take action if a formal complaint is lodged."
BJP's Araria district unit president Babban Singh said: "I will certainly look into it and ensure that such incident is not repeated," he said.
He said the identity of the party activists would be ascertained with the help of the teachers and students who were present at the spot at the time of the incident.
"We can't do anything on our own in such matters," he said.
Singh, however, said the party supporters didn't find any suitable place to hoist the flag to celebrate the occasion. "They should have maintained restrain and refrained from such actions," the district president said.
Araria superintendent of police Sudhir Kumar Porika could not be contacted for comments.
