Patna: The BJP is organising a number of programmes in Bihar on Friday on the eve of the birth anniversary BR Ambedkar in what is being seen as an effort to douse the Dalit anger over the Supreme Court ruling on the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi will be among the senior leaders to feature in the main function, to be held in Patna and organised by the SC cell of the party. BJP Bihar general secretary Rajendra Singh is going to hold a separate event at Dinara in Rohtas district.
"Governor Satya Pal Malik has consented to be the chief guest for the function in which people from the Shahabad region would take part in large numbers," Singh said.
The BJP's youth wing, the Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha, is organising special feasts across the state on the occasion in which people from the Dalit community would be invited and senior BJP leaders would break bread with them.
At least three Union ministers, Ravi Shankar Prasad (in Patna), Radha Mohan Singh (in Motihari) and Giriraj Singh (in Nawada), will take part in these events.
Two state ministers, Suresh Sharma and Rana Randhir, will take part in the events at Muzaffarpur and Sheohar respectively. On Thursday, the BJP attacked the Congress and raised a dozen points in the form of a questionnaire.
"The Opposition has been trying to create a perception that we are anti-Dalit. We are out to quell this move through our activities as the Modi government has done many things for Dalits," a senior BJP leader said.
