Patna: The BJP on Sunday demanded that RJD and those supporting Congress should seek apology from the people of the country for being on the side of a party (read Congress) which imposed Emergency and twisted the Constitution.

The demand was raised during a protest organised at JP roundabout to hammer the points related to Emergency that had been imposed by the Congress in the Centre in 1975.

Led by party state unit president Nityanand Rai, the party leaders and workers braved rain to take part in the protest programme.

"Congress made a brutal attack on our democratic system by imposing Emergency in the country and it also twisted the Constitution," Rai said.

He also recalled how the erstwhile Jana Sangh, which later went on to become the BJP, had joined hands with those social and political organisations which were opposing the Emergency and also supported the socialist forces who were against this move. "It is sad that some of the prominent socialist leaders are now sitting in the lap of the Congress," Rai said.

His attack was targeted against RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Samajwadi party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav whose parties are now in alliance with Congress that is trying to stitch a pan-India alliance of those political forces who stand for defeating the NDA in the coming general election.
