Anil Kumar Rai, the pro-VC has been made the new VC.

Sources said Agrawal who was already under the government’s radar for allegedly giving false information while applying for the VC’s post had tendered his resignation in October to the ministry of human resources development. The President, who is visitor of the university, accepted his resignation in the first week of November. Agrawal had a turbulent tenure with a section of students and teachers protesting against his style of functioning. The Motihari University Teachers’ Association had submitted an application to the ministry highlighting anomalies in the VC’s educational qualifications.

Pramod Meena, the president of Mahatma Gandhi Central University Teachers Association, said: “Through an RTI, it was revealed that Agrawal had obtained his PhD from the University of Rajasthan in 1992 whereas his application states he was awarded a PhD from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, in 1989. He misrepresented his graduation marks stating he secured above 60 per cent in his graduation while he had obtained merely 49 per cent.”
