Fresh role for IPS officer

 Patna, Jan. 1: Suresh Kumar Bhardwaj, a 1983-batch Bihar-cadre IPS officer, has been promoted to the director-general rank and posted as director-general-cum-commandant general of homeguards and fire services.

The post fell vacant after the superannuation of former DGP Abhayanand on December 31, 2014. Bhardwaj was earlier holding the post of additional director-general of technical services at the police headquarters.

Burglary

Patna: All India Kisan Mahasabha general secretary Raja Ram Singh on Thursday said the Mahasabha had called a nationwide protests on Friday to oppose the Centre's decision to bring ordinance on land acquisition and to press for farmers’ rights in face of the previous forced land acquisition and displacement. Singh condemned the government’s decision to bring Ordinance amending the Land Acquisition Act 2013. The recent amendments in 2013 law, which provided some rights to landowners keeping in mind rehabilitation and compensation, Âare direct assault on farmers’ right. Singh said that the Ordinance seeks to do away with two crucial features of 2013 Act that includes- social impact assessment and consent of certain percentage of project affected people. Â- ANAND

 Patna: Laptops and other electronic appliances worth Rs 18 lakh were stolen from an electronics shop located on SP Verma Road under the jurisdiction of Gandhi Maidan police station late on Wednesday night. The shop owner, Manoj Kumar, told the police that the miscreants had entered the shop after cutting through the shutters and escaped with electronic gadgets. A complaint has been lodged against the statement of the shop owner.

Molest cuffs

 Patna: A youth, identified as Ashish Bharti, was arrested from north Mandiri under the jurisdiction of Buddha Colony police station on the charge of outraging the modesty of a physically challenged girl on Thursday night. The arrested youth, a neighbour of the victim, is stated to be a resident of Parsa Bazar in East Champaran district.
