Gandhi fest prep

Muzaffarpur, March 29: Muzaffarpur district magistrate Dharmendra Singh, senior superintendent of police Vivek Kumar and other senior officials today inspected the Langat Singh College ground in town to assess preparations for a programme scheduled on April 11 to mark the centenary year of the Champaran Satyagraha.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar is expected to take part in the event. Around 15,000 participants are expected to attend the programme.

Squall alert

Purnea: The district administration on Wednesday directed field officials to make people aware of squall and thunderstorms in the region in next 12 hours. The officials, said an official press note, have also been directed to tell the people about precautions they need to take for minimising damage to life and property.

Soil cards

Patna: Senior BJP leader and former minister Nand Kishore Yadav on Wednesday accused the state government of not doing enough for issuing soil health cards to farmers. These cards are issued after inspecting the soil quality of agricultural fields and help farmers use fertilisers accordingly to improve productivity of crops. Yadav claimed the Centre had provided Rs 7.5 crore to Bihar for this purpose but so far only about half the amount has been utilised. He said 29.5 lakh soil health cards against the target of 72.60 lakh cards have been issued.

Erosion fight

Patna: The water resources department on Wednesday sanctioned Rs 1.67 crore for anti-erosion works at Nasriganj under Danapur block in Patna district. The amount has been sanctioned for land acquisition and other related works.

Funds worry

Patna: Senior Congress leader Sadanand Singh has expressed concern over the latest CAG report that suggests 22 per cent of the funds meant for development have gone unspent. He said chief minister Nitish Kumar must seriously review financial management.

Chhath ghats

Patna: District magistrate Sanjay Kumar Agarwal on Wednesday conducted a review meeting ahead of Chaiti Chhath starting from Friday. The district administration has identified 11 safe ghats for the devotees and necessary arrangements would be made. The safe ghats are Gai Ghat, Bhadra Ghat, Mahavir Ghat, Paatipul Ghat, Janardhan Ghat, Gate no 93 Ghat, Gandhi Ghat, Law College Ghat, Baalu Ghat, Choudhary Tola Ghat and Pathri Ghat.

ATM at Central varsity

Motihari: Central Bank of India has set up an ATM on the makeshift campus of Mahatma Gandhi Central University in Motihari.

Vice-chancellor Arvind Agrawal inaugurated the new facility on Wednesday and thanked the bank for setting up the facility which would be of great help for university teachers, staff and students. Senior bank officials, including general manager R.K. Arora, were present at the function.

Fest review

Patna: Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, the Patna district magistrate, on Wednesday chaired a review meeting on the preparation for Ram Navami festival on April 5. All sensitive places have been identified. Adequate police personnel will be posted there, Agrawal said.

College event

Patna: Yuva Mahotsava, a three-day festival, kicked off at AN College in Patna on Wednesday. Education minister Ashok Choudhary inaugurated the event.

Court force

Patna: Panchayati raj minister Kapildeo Kamath ruled out deputation of police force in panchayat courts. In response to a question in the Assembly, the minister said on Wednesday that panchayat bodies were supposed to arrive at compromise and not engage in policing.
