Three killed in two accidents

Aurangabad (PTI): Three persons were killed in two separate road accidents in Aurangabad district on Tuesday, police said.

The station house officer of Barun police station, Anil Dubey, said a teenaged girl, Renu Kumari, was returning to her village Angalish on a bicycle when she was knocked down by a speeding cement-laden truck. She died on the spot.

The truck driver managed to escape from the spot abandoning the vehicle which was torched by the villagers.

In another incident, two persons were killed in a head-on collision between a jeep and a tractor near Jankop village on Grand Trunk Road. Both of them were residents of new Diliyan village of Rohtas district.

The identity of both of them is yet to be ascertained by the police, Dubey added.

Life term for rapist

Begusarai (PTI): Sessions judge Parshuram Shukla on Tuesday gave life imprisonment to a man for raping a five-year-old girl at Singhaul village in the district on April 10. A fine of Rs 20,000 was also imposed on the accused, Pappu Tanti.

Missing man

Bettiah: Family members of Arvind Kumar Varma, posted as nazir (accountant) in Bettiah collectorate, staged dharna near West Champaran collectorate on Tuesday demanding his early recovery. Varma went missing from his office on May 6. According to the sources, Varma left his office after closing the main gate. His possessions like a locker key, spectacles and cellphone were found on his office table. The police are conducting raids to trace the missing government officer.

Pollution order

Patna: The high court division bench comprising Justice Navin Sinha and Justice Shivaji Pandey on Tuesday directed the state government and Bihar State Pollution Control Board to file their replies with regard to steps taken by them to check the noise and air pollution created by the vehicles in the state capital. The court, while hearing a PIL filed by Sanjay Singh, posted the matter for hearing after summer vacation. It would be next heard in mid-June.

Scholarship

Patna: The academic council of Central University of Bihar has approved the scholarship schemes for meritorious students with limited financial means. In addition, toppers in admission test of each programme will also be awarded special merit scholarship of Rs 1000 per month.

Better seeds

bhagalpur: Farmers in 20 districts will now get good seeds from Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, for improvement in the quality and quantity of their production. The university has decided to provide 6,720 quintal of high-yield seeds to farmers through local depots of Bihar Rajya Beej Nigam or Krishi Vigyan Kendra at subsidised rates. The seeds would be available from end-May or early June. It is a part of the systematic rice intensification project. The public relations officer of the university, Rajesh Kumar, said: “A farmer can collect the seeds at a subsidised rate by showing his identity card and receipt of land rent.”
