Monday hearing for rebel MLAs

Patna: The hearing of a petition filed by the four rebel JDU legislators, challenging their termination from the membership of the Assembly, has been postponed to November 10.

The high court bench of Justice Jyoti Saran will hear the matter.

Disqualified JDU MLAs Gyanendra Singh Gyanu (Barh), Rahul Sharma (Ghosi), Ravindra Rai (Mahuwa) and Neeraj Kumar Singh Bablu (Chhatapur) filed the petition on November 3, challenging Speaker Uday Narayan Chaudhary's decision of terminating their membership of the Assembly. Their membership was terminated on November 1. The leaders have also been expelled from the JDU party for 'anti-party activities' - voting against the party's official nominees in the Rajya Sabha elections this June.

Stay on cop action

Patna: The high court division bench Justice R.K. Datta and Justice Ravi Ranjan on Friday stayed the initiation of contempt proceedings against Patna deputy superintendent of police (law and order) Mamta Kalyani in connection with the anticipatory bail plea of Shankar Raut, an accused in a gang rape case. On October 4, a single bench had held Kalyani guilty for failing to submit a copy of the case diary demanded by the court, in spite of reminders from then senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj. The matter will again come up for hearing on November 17.

Unique IDs

Motihari: The Motihari Nagar Parishad would soon provide unique identification numbers to all households in town. This would facilitate every detail and information on the houses to go on the Net. A.M. Jha, the project manager of the map drafting firm, has been assigned the job to conduct a survey for details on the door-to-door mapping, said the civic body head, Prakash Asthana.

Chargesheet

Motihari: Police in Chhatauni have submitted a chargesheet for a shoot-out that left a woman dead this week. Two persons injured in the incident are under treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital. The trial is expected to start within the next 10 days.

Live lecture

Patna: Students and faculty members of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, attended a live telecast of a Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (United Kingdom) lecture on Thursday. The health hub was among 20 medical institutions in the world to attend it.

Bank branch

Patna: Union Bank opened a branch and ATM facility at Shrikrishna Nagar on Friday. Sunil Kumar Gupta, general manager, eastern region, did the honours.

Four in net

Nawada: Four criminals were arrested on Friday from an area under the Kadirganj police station in Nawada district for attempting to rob a jewellery shop and kidnap store owner's son. Two country made pistols, seven cartridges and four cellphones were recovered.

Seminar

Patna: Swami Shajanand Saraswati Samajik Nyay Manch organised a state-level seminar on profit sharing in the city on Friday. Urban development minister Samrat Choudhary attended the event.
