Interim bail to accused doctor

Bhagalpur: The Patna High Court on Friday granted interim bail to Mritunjay Kumar, accused of misbehaving with a woman patient at his clinic in the district on October 31. Also on Friday, a local court, with the help of villagers, recorded the statement of the 22-year-old woman who has made the charges against the doctor.

People in Goshaidaspur Mahapanchayat, meanwhile, are disgruntled over the deteriorating health condition of seven persons who have been on a fast-unto-death since November 17 over the case and subsequently delay in Mrityunjay Kumar’s arrest.

Gas pipeline work to start

Patna: Officials of the Gas Authority of India Limited on Friday said the construction of the proposed Jagdishpur Haldia natural gas pipeline would be commencing shortly and was expected to be completed within 40 months of starting the project. The gas authorities said the pipeline would pass through 14 districts of Bihar, and Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bengal. The length of the pipeline would be 2,050km in length.

Bribe cuffs

Chhapra: A vigilance team on Friday arrested trainee sub-inspector Manoj Kumar Ram while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from Arvind Pandey. Pandey had informed the vigilance department of the demand of the cop.

Court order

Patna: A high court division bench on Friday stayed appointment of civil judge (junior division) till further orders.

Bridge loan

Patna: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development has sanctioned a loan of Rs 407 crore to the state government for the construction of bridge across river Gandak at Bangraghat which will connect Saran and Muzaffarpur.

Carrom tourney

Patna: Inter-school carrom tournament, organised by Gyan Niketan Girls’ School, started on Friday.

Telecom meet

Patna: The office of the controller of communication accounts, department of telecommunications, organised a meet on Friday to popularise DoT pensioners toll free helpline number 1800-3456-183, e-payment services for the speedy settlement of the retirement benefits of DoT/BSNL retired employees so that pensioners are benefited.

BJP leader visit

Patna: Senior BJP leader C.P. Thakur, as part of Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, will visit Gaunpura village at Phulwarisharif on Saturday.

Insurance law

Patna: The Bihar-Jharkhand state general insurance employees’ association has opposed proposed amendment in the insurance law to increase foreign direct investment in the sector and disinvestment in the sector.

Dairy projects

Patna: National Dairy Development Board has sanctioned 42 sub-projects for Rs 221 crore. Twelve states, including Bihar, would be benefited by these projects.

Hong Kong trip

Patna: Class VIII student of St Karen’s Secondary School Narendra Tejaswi has won a free trip to Hong Kong Disneyland after becoming first in the International Science Olympiad.
